The role

The salary banding is set but you will have the opportunity to progress through the banding in line with performance and role progression. Everyone starts at £38,500 per annum (pro rata for part-time) plus up to 5% training bonus. On achievement of remote approval, your salary will increase to £39,900 plus up to 10% bonus. On achievement of face to face approval, your salary will increase to £41,500 plus up to 10% bonus.

Further progression is set out in our Career Path framework, and you’ll work with your manager to demonstrate achievement against targets. Our salary bands have been aligned with the NHS Agenda for Change to reflect role progression and performance, with clear pathways to Progressing, Senior, Advanced and Lead levels.

A trained Functional Specialist will deliver up to three assessments and three completed written reports in a day. These might include telephone, video or face to face assessments. This is based on full-time employees and pro-rated for part-time employees.

You’ll be assigned to a rolling five-week pattern of home-based and Assessment Centre based work, including an Assessment Centre based ‘cover’ week, on a rotational basis.

The majority of work will require laptop use so you will need to have a secure space with suitable desk and chair from which to communicate confidentially with claimants without interruption; alternatively you can work full time from your nearest consultation centre. Office space can be accessed as required to support training, meetings and hybrid working as part of our wellbeing approach.

    The application process

Your application will be reviewed by one of our Recruitment Consultants and we will contact you with the outcome within 48 hours.

The main route to apply to our vacancies is online. For Functional Specialist and Enquiry Centre Advisor vacancies, you’ll apply via our recruitment system, called SmartRecruiters. For all other roles on our team, you’ll apply via Capita’s central recruitment system, called Workday.

After you’ve applied, we’ll be in touch to discuss the role. We usually do this over the phone, but you can request a video interview if you’d prefer.

For clinical roles, you’ll be required to complete a typing test online to assess your typing speed. This will be done via a web-based platform.

We typically use Microsoft Teams to conduct any face-to-face video interviews and assessments. This is an online, web-based video platform which offers a magnifier tool, high contrast mode, live captions, and the ability to change your background to reduce visual distractions.

For any face-to-face interviews and assessments, we can discuss them with you beforehand, to make sure that you feel safe and that any reasonable adjustments can be made.

If you have a condition that you believe may impact your ability to complete any of the steps in our process or if you feel you might struggle in any way, please let us know and we’ll do our best to support you with any adjustments that you may need or by offering alternatives.

We’re committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and adaptations to our recruitment process are available on request.  For further information or to discuss any changes you may need, please contact us on haasrecruitment@capita.com or 0300 303 8544.

If you’re having any issues with your application please contact us, one of the team will be happy to help.

      The interview process

Our training will equip you with the skills you need, but you’ll require a basic level of IT skill to support your journey. We’ll ask you to complete a basic speed typing test which takes around five minutes. There are lots of free online resources available to help you if you need to practice before completing the test.

You’ll need access to a laptop or desktop PC with a screen, separate keyboard, and reliable internet connection to complete the typing test. You won’t be able to complete the test on a mobile or tablet device.

Virtual interviews can feel very different to an interview held face to face. We’ve created a guide document.

If you’re unable to attend the interview, please contact the recruitment team to let us know as soon as possible and we’ll try our best to reschedule it. If you don’t attend the interview on the day, we’ll contact you to understand why and if appropriate we’ll try to reschedule the interview.

        Pre-employment screening and onboarding

All candidates are required to undergo a BPSS check. BPSS stands for Baseline Personnel Security Standard, and it is a pre-employment screening that will confirm your identity and right to work in the UK, as well as confirming your last 3 years employment history and any unspent criminal convictions.

BPSS checks are mandatory for any person working in a government department, the military, or any contractors or organisations that will have access to government or public assets or information.

You’ll need to provide relevant, up to date documents that demonstrate your right to live and work in the UK alongside details of previous employment history and any unspent criminal convictions. A list of suitable documents will be shared with you when you’re verbally offered the role. To ensure these checks can be completed promptly, please share all required evidence with the team as swiftly as possible.

Your contract of employment is conditional upon successful completion of security vetting. It’s important that you respond to requests regarding your pre-employment screening as a priority. If you have any questions about the process, please contact the recruitment team.

Your IT kit will contain a laptop, charger and mobile phone and will be delivered to your home address the week prior to your start date. If you’ve changed address, please let us know, or if you’ll not be at home, please contact us to make alternative delivery arrangements.

Please contact us as soon as possible if you’re unable to start on your agreed start date. There’s a limited number of places available on each training course. If you’re unable to attend, we’ll offer your place to someone else. Rebooking will depend on availability of upcoming courses.

          Working at Capita

Your basic salary will be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments by bank credit transfer on the 27th of each month (or the previous Friday if the 27th falls on a weekend).

As part of your voluntary benefits, you’ll also be able to access a financial planning app called Level which allows you to access an advance on earned but unpaid wages each month (terms and conditions apply).

Yes, if you’re a part-time employee, your induction training can also be part time. You can choose between two part-time options: a four-day schedule from Monday to Thursday, or a three-day schedule on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It’s important to note that during the initial training period, which can last up to 6 months on a pro-rata basis, you’ll have the same day off each week to simplify scheduling with your training cohort. The training will include a mix of self-directed learning and days with trainer facilitation and support, all within the core business hours of 9am to 5pm. On self-directed days, you’ll have more flexibility in your working arrangements, but trainers will not be available outside those core hours to answer queries.

While you’ll be contracted 37.5 hours a week, you’ll be able to agree your actual working hours with your line manager after training. We’ll consider your work-life balance, as well as the needs of the business, to create a working pattern that benefits both of us. Working patterns can be between the hours of 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday and include an unpaid hour for lunch. For example, 8am-4:30pm or 9am-5:30pm. We’ll also try to give you a minimum of four weeks’ notice of any changes to your rota if they are needed. We can offer part-time contracts of three or four full days per week.

The full range of rewards and benefits available may depend on the role you do or your location. You can find out more about the core and voluntary benefits that all Capita colleagues have access to on this page.
